My depression has been resistant to treatment so far. To be fair, I’ve only been in treatment for five or six years. This feels like a long time for me because I haven’t really had any respite from my symptoms. Then I look at the people I’ve met who have been in treatment for decades, sometimes longer than I’ve been alive, and I realize five or six years in therapy is a drop in the bucket compared to their journey. I’ve tried numerous medications and different drug cocktails.
I don’t know if you’re in any sort of treatment right now, but if you are in treatment, you might need to decide whether to change course of it’s not working for you. If you are not in treatment, I urge you to do so as quickly as possible. A combination of medication and therapy is probably your best place to start. Keep in mind that anti-depressants are not miracle drugs. It’s a very difficult process, and it can take years or even decades. Your depression will not magically resolve itself without some serious hard work on your part.
