I teach American History and each year chaperone a group of 8th graders on a trip to Washington DC. While going through the airport my carry on computer bag was gone through and the agent found a Civil War relic I had forgotten was in there: a mini ball ( bullet). Now, these are simple lead moldings, no gun powder or anything. The agent asked for an explanation. I explained that I forgot that was there, that I was a teacher and used that in class, and explained what it was. He said he was going to have to take it. I explained that it was simply lead and was no more dangerous than a small rock. He replied, “Well, here’s how it goes: I let you bring this on, someone else brings gunpowder, and someone else sneaks on…” at which point I interrupt and asked,” What? A musket?!”
Yes. I worked with a very ambitious woman who had her eyes set on becoming a vice president at the company I worked for. She apparently considered me, and several others, a threat to her goal so she worked to get us all fired. Little comments in the meeting, filing conducts reports against us that we had to defend, making sure we were not invited to key meetings.
